Stay cool. Even an ice cream party deserves a cool cake. Take a simple ice cream cake and top it with chocolate ganache. Add a chocolate ice cream cone to the top to make it look like melted ice cream. Don’t forget the sprinkles.
Here’s the scoop. Ice cream is the star of this party. Set up an ice cream bar with cute cups, a variety of flavors and an assortment of toppings so guests can make their own sundaes. Then give them a spoon and let them dig in.
Freeze. After everyone has enjoyed their fill of ice cream, let them have fun with a few activities. Play ice cream freeze dance and make bracelets. These cute ice cream cone and popsicle charms were found on Etsy.
Look at what we’ve whipped up. After the party is over, send your guests home with a party favor in an empty ice cream container. Print out our labels onto adhesive backed paper and cut out. Fill the container with anything you’d like and tie it up with a pretty ribbon and a pink spoon.

So sweet! So cute!

Bevany–there are some great tutorials and recipes for ganache on the internet. Try googling it. Unfortunately we didn’t do a how to for that. I’m sorry!

Thank you for the great post. You have such great ideas!!! Do you mind me asking where you got the cake stand? I LOVE it and have been searching for the perfect cake stand for a while!
Linked over from Kara’s Party Ideas. Love this cute party idea and the site.
Denise–That cake stand is from Crate & Barrel. It’s about 7″ in diameter. Not sure if they still sell it though…
i like this idea. i always like to try new ideas.
Such an adorable party idea!
This IS SO CUTE!
Thanks so much for the links! I’m totally using those cute containers for my daughter’s party!
Love, love this cake! Just not sure what you mean by a chocolate ice cream cone. Is the chocolate that is melting on top ice cream or a chocolate cone? Too cute!
Hi Pam–A chocolate ice cream cone means to scoop chocolate ice cream into a cone and place it on top. So the cake is first covered in melted chocolate (chocolate ganache) and then topped with an actual ice cream cone that is filled with chocolate ice cream. Hope that helps. xo
Hi Brittany,
the link for the empty containers doesn’t seem to work any more. Can you tell me the name of the site so I can look it up? Thanks!
Hi Kimberly–I updated the link. You can buy the empty containers at Garnish: http://www.thinkgarnish.com/store/shop/c/38-no-soup-or-ice-cream-for-you/ xo
what a refreshing site that i could just spend the entire afternoon with!
the cake pic…just delish!!!
Thanks for this cute cake idea. I had an Ice Cream party for my son this last weekend, and used this idea to make the cake. As we were having the party outside, so instead of an icecream scoop on top, I added chocolate ganache to the butter cream, and used that instead.
The party can be checked at the below link:

I just had my daughter’s 2nd birthday party using ideas from this site. To easily make the cake, I made a six inch cake and cupcakes with cake mix. Then I frosted froze the six in. cake. A few hours before the party I used frosting to adhere a cupcake to the top of a sugar cone. Then I used magic shell instead of chocolate ganache to hold the cone in place on the cake, drizzling it on the cone to cover the cupcake too. Super simple! I also made the ice cream cone hats using old Christmas bows and curly ribbon, with a little hot glue it was again super simple! Used the labels and attached them to ice cream bowls as favors for the kids. Thanks for the wonderful ideas.
Love the ice-cream cake idea, so creative! American Cancer Society has various kinds of birthday invitations to just match with your lovely cakes. Order from ACSGreetings.org, and to help create more birthdays.
Thanks so much for the cute idea!! I will have to do something similar for my daughter’s birthday coming u.

What a precious party! Wondering where you got the bracelet wire? Was it pre-made or did you just cut it off a spool? Many thanks for all the inspiration!
Hi Katie–I don’t know specifically where Sara got the bracelet wire. But I’m pretty sure she cut it off a spool and shaped it herself. Hope that helps! xo
I love this entire plan – thank you! I am having trouble printing the stickers for the top of the pints. The other items printed perfectly but for some reason when I print the thank you stickers they are coming out in purple and yellow instead of the pink and blue?? They preview fine on my printer and everything else is printing just fine?? I have no idea what is wrong but really want to make these work. I’ve cleaned printer heads and every other doc is printing fine. So strange. Any ideas?
Hi Casey–I emailed you. xo
Hi there, I love your gorgeous ideas and printed out the invitations for my daughters party in a few weeks – thank you so much for sharing! Like Casey I am having trouble with the colours on the favor labels, any idea why? cheers
My daughter’s party is tomorrow and I’ve utilized almost all of your beautiful ideas. You sent me the PDF for the sticker sheets since the linked ones don’t print the correct colors. Can you also send me the PDF for the thank you’d if you still have it? Thank you for all of your inspiration!
thanks so much for the printables. I ordered the ice cream containers from Garnish & used your printables!!! My daughters 10th party was wonderful!!!
Hello, I am trying to use the circle thank you printable but it is printing yellow and purple. Please email me!!!
Love this cake. Made my own for my boyfriend’s 23rd. Would love if you would check it out http://dessertfirst-always.blogspot.com/2013/02/ice-cream-cake.html.
