Here is the tutorial for the back to school pencil cake: You’ll need two styrofoam cake rounds, a few inches smaller in diameter than your cake stand.
1. Using tacky glue, glue the two cake rounds together and let dry.
2. Put two file size rubber bands around the styrofoam cake. Carefully slide pencils under the rubber bands until the entire styrofoam cake round is covered.
3. Add loose rubber bands on top of the cake for frosting.
4. To create the pencil candles, push red pencils with yellow eraser caps into the foam top.

sooooo cool. thanks
So fun!!!
Really cute! What a great idea!
I adore this and will make it for my twins Kindergarten teacher using salvaged hat box, but will fill it with bags of Goldfish snacks with tags that say “O-fish-ally Kindergarteners”.
Got the fish idea from Tip Junkie & TomKat Studios and was in search of the perfect way of presenting the first day of school snack!
Thanks!
amazing! Easy and adorable!
So clever! So adorable! I’ve been enjoying all of your creative back-to-school features!

For an 8-inch cake round, approximately how many pencils would we need to cover it? I can’t wait to make this!
I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you are very creative!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s adorable! I love the idea of “dessert tables” that aren’t boasting desserts. Have you seen the veggie tables? I LOVE them!
Hi Lisa Frank–For the 10-inch cake round I think we used about 96 pencils, but I’m not positive. But that might give you a good place to start! xo
This would also look and taste awesome if you topped it with “real” cuppies instead of the rubber bands:) thanks for sharing….K
Now how many pencils does a child need?????

Tee hee, just saw that you linked up to my party too! You’re the best! Thank you! So honored and delighted to have you…

As a teacher, I can never have enough pencils. I have 40 students, and I have gone through hundreds of pencils! It is better than chocolate. Now if I could find a pencil sharpener that is reliable — I could retire!
