Send your guests home with these Earth Day party favors — planted seeds to watch BLOOM & GROW. This project uses repurposed eggshells and recycled egg cartons, so it will serve as an Earth-friendly activity and favor.

To prepare, carefully crack fresh eggs open to create two bowl shapes or use an eggshell slicer to cut whole shells open. Empty egg for desired use, and rinse shell for planting.

At your party, have your little guests fill shells with potting soil and carefully plant a seed. Use organic bean seeds, known for their quick 3-5 day germination period. Refer to your seed packet for specific planting instructions and sprouting time estimates.

To send the planted seeds home safely, gently sandwich them between recycled egg cartons. Biodegradable cotton baker’s twine and natural twine are the perfect item to hold favors together. Use this free flag printable to mark the gardener’s name.

Once sprouted, plant the entire shell and seedling combo according to your seed packet information. As the eggshell breaks down, it will serve as fertilizer to your seedling.

Earth Day Party Ideas — Kids will love this! A DIY globe is the perfect centerpiece for this party — it’s an Earth Day celebration after all. Using papier-mâché to create a globe is a fun, hands-on project. To begin, you’ll need a round balloon (we used a punching ball purchased at our local party store), recycled newspaper torn into 1-inch strips, water and flour.

Whisk together 1 part flour to 1-1/2 parts water to form a paste. Carefully dip newspaper strips into the mixture and layer on the balloon until the entire sphere is covered. Keep in mind this project can get messy but it’s so gratifying. Let sit overnight until dry. Once dry, you may choose to discard the inner balloon by popping it and removing it through the balloon-tie hole.

Paint the globe ocean blue. Using the free printable, color and cut out the continents. Generously apply a clear sealant (such as Modge Podge) to adhere the colored landmasses and then to cover and protect the entire globe. Let sit overnight to dry.

Proudly display your Earth Day pride (or at the very least, geographical artistry) on a canning ring.
