When life hands you lemons…make a lemonade stand! Keep the kids busy this summer by baking and selling some summer sweets. Here’s a quick overview of our simple lemonade stand to get you started–and some free printables that you can use for your own stand. More details tomorrow and Thursday.

To make your own sign:
1. Download and print out the “Fresh Lemonade” sign onto an 8 1/2 x 11″ piece of white paper in black ink.
2. Take the sign to a copy store and have them enlarge it on a black and white copy machine (it only costs a few dollars). Glue the sign onto a poster board and let dry.
3. Let your kids color in the sign.

Printables included:
“Fresh Lemonade” sign
treats & sweets sign
cookie labels
employee rules sign

Helping your kids set up a lemonade stand this summer? Here are a few tips:

  • Use wooden crates instead of a table. Angle the bottom row of crates for a sturdier set up and use zip ties to secure them together. Face some of the crates with the opening to the front for storing goodies and use the back facing crates to store extra supplies and the cash box. When lemonade stand season is over, you can use the wooden crates around your house.
  • Don’t send your best glass dishes outside for the lemonade stand. Find plastic and acrylic look-a-likes that look great but won’t break: a deli container from the grocery store, acrylic lemonade pitcher, acrylic canisters, and a yellow plastic tray from Home Goods.
  • Give a regular old cash box some pizzazz with a coat of spray paint (from Valspar, “summer leaf” in satin finish).
  • Fold small doilies in half and tape together over a piece of string for a simple summer decoration.
  • Add some fresh lemon slices to your lemonade to make it even more enticing.
  • Serve lemonade in 12 oz plastic cups with lids (from Smart and Final) for a sophisticated look.
  • Cute green striped straws and assorted bags will attract some customer attention.
  • Print out some cute lemonade stand printables.

Budding young entrepreneur will love running a lemonade stand this summer. And they know that to keep customers happy, you need to give them what they want. So how about some goodies to go along with that lemonade? Bake up some fresh cookies or make some rice crispy treats that will entice kids and adults alike. And for the younger crowd, sell some colorful gumballs, small bottles of bubbles, and vending machine capsules filled with small prizes.

A lemonade bar drink station is made complete with a buffet of gourmet lemonades–peach lemonade, strawberry lemonade, and rosemary lemonade. Want to make some? (See the lemonade station tomorrow!)

ROSEMARY LEMONADE: To make rosemary lemonade- First make rosemary simple syrup by combining 1 1/2 cups water with 1 cup sugar in a pot. Cook over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Once the sugar has dissolved, turn off the heat and add a couple sprigs of rosemary into the syrup. Allow that to sit until the water has cooled (discard rosemary). Add the simple syrup to a batch of lemonade and the juice of two lemons.

After posting last year’s limeade bar, I think a pretty Lemonade Station is in order this summer! (Come back tomorrow for the straw lemonade printables.)

The best thing about a lemonade bar is that you can dress it up for a more formal event, like a wedding, or tone it down for birthday parties, baby showers, and backyard barbeques.

The supply list is very simple. Just gather mason jars or milk bottles (fill a few with snips of fresh herbs and use the rest as drinking glasses), berry baskets filled with summer fruit, striped straws, and pitchers of gourmet lemonade (recipes here). Summer is served!
