back to college guest post at giver’s log

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

I love the Giver’s Log and was so happy when Amber invited me to guest post there last week. I could spend hours just looking at all of her great ideas for gifts. She asked me to be a part of her back to school for college series called First Kitchen Love. I wrote about some of the things I used to eat in college. But I only ate that way so I could buy cute shoes. Priorities.

party food guest post at simply modern mom

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Tiffany at Simply Modern Mom asked me to guest post on her fun blog.  She recently threw her daughter a darling ice cream party. I guess that got her in the party spirit and she wanted me to share food suggestions for kids birthday parties. I was happy to help so I rounded up some food ideas from parties that I’ve done. The whole point of that post is to show you that you don’t have to serve pizza and hot dogs–kids will eat healthy food too. And don’t feel pressure to serve any food at a party. You can always serve plain old cake. Go check it out and have a great weekend.

fruit tray guest post at tatertots & jello

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Jen gave a shout out on Twitter a while back for guest posts and I jumped at the chance to be a part of what she’s got going on over at Tatertots & Jello. Don’t be fooled by the name, that girl is full of crafting, clothing refashioning and house remodeling. Go check it out. I submitted a tutorial on how to assemble a beautiful fruit tray, another idea that goes along with my Partyschool 101 series. Fruit trays are always yummy in the summer and the winter, but the fruit selection right now is amazing–making it super easy to throw together a delicious platter for summer entertaining.

Edit: A couple of people have been wondering about this, so I’ll explain. My mom helped me with this platter of fruit and she wanted to add sugar to the grapes and blueberries for the photo. I don’t normally do that, so I didn’t mention it. But if you’d like to, rinse off the fruit and roll it in a plate of sugar while the fruit is still wet. Then let the sugar and fruit dry. It’s a bit decadent for me.

Oh, and we served this fruit tray at the Wizard of Oz Party.

how to cut a cake guest post at marta writes

Friday, July 9th, 2010

I love Marta. And I love her blog. She graciously invited me to participate in “the how-to series: celebrating stuff we know.” There are some really cool posts and many more to come, but all I know how to do is party stuff. So big surprise, my contribution is how to cut a cake. And it goes right along with Partyschool 101. You can go to Marta’s blog to get the whole scoop. If you’ve signed up for my newsletter, you might recognize this picture.

And I can’t say this enough–a big thanks to Sara Westbrook, Nicole Gerulat, and Kara Allen for helping me with the newsletter. I love you ladies!

an interview with me at make it work mom

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Have you met Camille from Make it Work Mom? I follow her on Twitter and I was recently able to meet her in real life at The Casual Bloggers Conference. She is such a sweetie and has a great website for moms who work. I’m so honored that she wanted to interview me. If you are interested in reading my answers to her questions, you can check it out at Make it Work Mom.

This is my new favorite feet picture. It was taken at a private beach during a party that I’ll show you soon. Ahhhhh… the beach.

party games guest post at the mother huddle

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

As part of the Partyschool 101 series, I’m doing a bunch of guest posts this summer with even more party tips and tutorials. Last Thursday I was invited to contribute to The Mother Huddle’s famous Bullet List. Check it out–it’s a list of 15 Classic Party Games that you can use in a pinch at your child’s next party. You know those times when you’ve planned out tons of fun and amazing party activities that you’re sure the kids will love? Then you’re freaking out when they’ve finished all your games in 10 minutes and you still have an hour of party left to fill? Yup, that’s what these simple, classic games are for. And it’s so easy to adapt them to your party theme. “Duck, Duck, Goose” can become “Long Neck, Long Neck, T-Rex.” And “Simon Says” easily changes to “Princess Says.”

guest appearance on studio 5: throwing the perfect baby shower

Monday, March 8th, 2010

I was a guest on Studio 5, a local Utah morning TV show, last Friday and I talked about throwing the perfect baby shower. Full disclosure: the show is live and I totally froze when Brooke, the show’s hostess, asked me the first question. As soon as I looked at the cameras I couldn’t remember what I was going to say. I kind of recovered and finished both segments but I’m sad because I blanked and didn’t say a lot of the cool things that I wanted to talk about. Blogging is so much easier. And yes, it was just as scary being on TV as I thought it would be. TV people definitely have a great skill and I’m even more impressed now when I see them on TV.

Here you go if you want to read a summary of what I said on the show or watch the video clip (I still haven’t watched it because I’m too embarrassed to see myself):

For my appearance on Studio 5, I wanted to give another special thanks to these sweet ladies for helping me out:

Megan at Persimmon Floral for the amazing bouquets.
Kelly at Cakewalk Baking Company for the yummy vegan cupcakes.
Karen at Lillybelle Designs for the adorable bibs.
My mom and Eileen Romney for the cute cookies.
Sara Westbrook for the downloads and party photos.
Nicole Hill for the other party photos.
And to my parents for coming on the set with me to try to keep me calm.

Tomorrow I’ll have a giveaway of the bibs from Lillybelle Designs and the homemade banners that I used on the first segment.
