Games at a first birthday party can be hard to plan. Will there be adults attending? A mixture of children who are all different ages? And what about the birthday baby–shouldn’t the party be about them? Inspired by the Korean tradition, get a playful glimpse into your baby’s future with this fortune-telling game.
TO PLAY: Collect objects that represent cities across the globe and place them in front of baby. Whichever object he or she reaches for first, indicates where their aspirations may take them. The traditional Korean ritual uses items that represent professions, but we think this variation was fitting for our World Traveler theme. We presented the objects for baby on a homemade wooden tray lined with a map.
I’ll be sharing a new blog post each week over on Disney Baby. Today I’m sharing this post, click over to see what object she picks!
You know those old maps hanging out in the back pocket of your car seat? There are lots of ways to put them to good use at our World Traveler First Birthday Party.
FIVE WAYS TO CREATE MAP PARTY DECORATIONS: Use instead of gift wrap, cut into pennants and make a bunting, make map party hats, cut strips to wrap around water bottles, or use as envelopes.
Baby’s first birthday is a celebration of the start of a new life’s voyage. As parents we wonder many times about the things our children will do and the places they’ll go. A world traveler theme is perfect for a first birthday: maps, vintage luggage and a beautiful, ruffly birthday cake.
This celebration has first birthday ideas for girls, but this party theme is one that can easily be adapted for a boy too. In fact, we’ve included both boy and girl versions of our freebie high-chair banner for you!
To make the “She’s One” (or “He’s One”) sign download and print our template, cut out the circle and glue onto a larger circle cut from decorative scrapbook paper. Hang with fishing line so it’s floating, just out of reach, above the birthday boy or girl’s head. Both of these party printables are setup for 11×17 paper.
