Customize cupcakes in a pinch with this super easy DIY idea for quick monogram cupcake toppers. Use the finished toppers to create a message for the birthday girl or boy, or even as custom place settings for each party goer. Make a handful of these in under ten minutes (including drying time) just before your guests arrive, if you’re running short on time. Or make them in advance and poke them into cupcakes or a regular birthday cake in lieu of candles.

Directions: Cut paper straws to various lengths to form different letters of the alphabet. Then glue the pieces together using a hot glue gun (or regular craft glue, if you prefer). Once the glue is dry, insert a lollipop stick into the bottom of one of the straw holes, with a bead of glue to keep it in place. Let the glue dry. Finally, remove any straw glue strings, if applicable, and poke into the tops of a batch of cupcakes. Easy as that!

Making a planet garland, as part of the Outer Space Party decorations, is a fun and simple project you can do with your kids.  And bonus, it can double as children’s room decor when the party is over. Keep reading for all of the details.

You will need: styrofoam balls in several shapes (from the craft store), acrylic paint in a variety of colors, paint brushes, heavy duty embroidery needle and thread

Use this handy guide for your planet painting and sizing.
Sun: biggest size foam ball; yellow with orange
Saturn: next largest; blue green with white stripes
Jupiter: same size as Saturn; brown/gray with white stripes
Neptune: medium foam ball; deeper blue
Uranus: medium foam ball; turquoise
Mars: small foam ball; bright red
Mercury: small foam ball; brownish red
Venus: small foam ball; brownish yellow
Earth: small foam ball; blue with green and then white stripes
Pluto: (optional)smallest; greenish

Directions: First, paint the foam balls with acrylic paint, diluted with a few drops of water. Once the planets are painted, skewer each one with a toothpick and stand upright to let dry.

To string into a garland, push a needle threaded with embroidery thread through the center of each planet. Line them up in order (with the Sun in the center).  First Pluto (optional, but this is modeled after a vintage space map so we included it), then Uranus, then Jupiter, then Earth, then Mercury, then the Sun, then Venus, then Mars, then Saturn, and then Neptune. Now you’re done with the perfect outer space party planet garland, great for birthday party decor and room decor alike!

Watercolor is a definite favorite when crafting during the Spring and Summer. The color possibilities are endless and no skill is required — that’s our kind of project. This watercolor invitation diy is so easy to do, but even more fun to receive! If you are having any kind of gathering this month, skip the store-bought invites and paint your own.

You will need: assorted watercolor paints, paintbrush, paper, triangular-paper punch, letter stamps, ink pad

Directions: Cover each sheet of paper with your choice of watercolor and let dry. Feel free to mix colors. Make a sheet of warm colors and a sheet of cool colors if you like.

Using your paper punch, punch out small pieces of paper in different sections of the painted areas. A triangular-shaped paper punch makes the invite look like a mini-bunting. A giant circle punch could be super fun as well.

Take your stamps and stamp the letters to the word “party” using one stamp at a time. If you want to put more information, cut out more shapes. Write the small details like when, where, and who on the other pieces of confetti.

Stuff the pieces of confetti in an envelope and send them on their merry way. Your friends will be thrilled to receive this colorful mail!
