We were so excited to create the inspiration for this I Heart NY Party for Joanna Goddard and her son Toby’s first birthday. You might know Joanna from her fabulous blog, A Cup of Jo and she is seriously one of the nicest people we’ve ever met. We customized this party for her by changing the theme slightly to “I heart Toby,” a play on the “I heart NY” theme. Sara made Joanna a custom t-shirt with this same slogan that Joanna wore. Brittany was able to go to New York City and help out on the day of. Toby’s party was held at an amazing park near Battery Park (where Joanna and Alex had their wedding brunch) that is right near the water. The weather was perfect for an outdoor event and all of the guests had a great time, especially Toby who loved eating his birthday cake all by himself.

We hope you enjoy some photos from the party. Toby is adorable and Alex and Joanna are such fun and kind people. We loved bringing this party to life, right there in NYC. Thanks for letting us share in your special day!

As if New York City wasn’t great enough, how about all of the famous food that comes from there? For this party we had to include a few of the classics: bagels & cream cheese and black & white cookies. Some muffins, fruit and juice round it out. And of course you’ll need an “I love NY” t-shirt, worn here by our gorgeous model. We also adore these New York City cupcake toppers (generously donated by Meri Meri, when we mentioned how much we loved them). It was so fun creating the party inspiration for this adorable family. Real party pictures coming soon!

There’s nothing like seeing the sites whey you go to the Big Apple. Whether you’re walking, taking a taxi, or riding the subway there is always someplace to explore. And you can’t miss this famous New York City landmark while you’re there: The Statue of Liberty. For our party she stands proudly atop a 4″ personal sized “smash cake” that’s just the right size for the birthday boy. To make your own Statue of Liberty cake topper, just clip the torch off with some wire cutters. Then hot glue a birthday candle in its place. Now make a wish!

Start spreading the news! The site redesign is finished, with a special thanks to Maddy (you might recognizer her as a founder of Nonpareil Magazine, The Inspired Bride, and Somewhere Splendid). We hope you like it as much as we do. In other exciting news, we bring to you our our newest party. We put together some fantastic ideas for a real party for one of the sweetest girls on the planet. Her one year old son is a born and bred New Yorker. So of course the party theme was a no brainer: I heart NY–but with our own custom twist. We’ll post the pictures from the actual party later, but we couldn’t resist sharing these ideas with you this week. The party details were inspired by the city, including New York Times invitations, envelopes lined with the Sunday funnies, a subway map party hat (want to make your own subway party hat? Here’s a download for that), ‘Big Apple’ party favors served in newspaper frites, and some fun books for the birthday boy. I’m gonna make a party out of it, in old New York. If I can make it there, I’d make it anywhere. It’s up to you, New York, New York.
