I have an easy flower makeover for you today with three simple flower arrangement ideas all from the same bunch of flowers — three ways to create three different looks. The secret to this makeover is the containers.

There is nothing wrong with buying flowers, trimming the ends, and placing them in a vase. In fact, I kind of like the whimsical feeling of this one! But if you want a more polished look, grab a collection of your favorite vases or containers and follow a few simple steps. I’ve used a set of tiny galvanized tins, eclectic vintage vases, and (my favorite) soda pop bottles. When picking vases, find a collection that coordinates. For example, the soda pop bottles are all different but they all have yellow or red labels. Same with the vases, they are all clear glass but different shapes. This will give variety to your arrangement without looking hodgepodge.

For these arrangements I went to a local floral shop and picked flowers from their selection of loose flowers. Picking flowers this way allows you to get flowers that coordinate and you can buy as many stems as you need. I chose: white garden roses, white ranunculus, yellow billy balls, red anemones, dusty miller, white dahlias, and feverfew.

Now that you have vases and flowers, get some clippers and start arranging. Here are three techniques for arranging with each of the different collection of vases. First, the tins. For this arrangement pick two of the flowers (feverfew and dusty miller) and alternated bunches of each in the vases. Cut the stems all about the same height and fill up each tin pretty full.

For the collection of vintage bottles, use a variety of flowers (red anemones, billy balls, ranunculus, and garden roses) and accented with dusty miller. In this arrangement you can vary the height of the flowers to create a looser look.

For the soda pop bottles choose a variety of flowers, put only one type of flower in each bottle, and cut the stems all the same height. Doing so creates a more uniform look that shows off the cute bottle labels and the bright happy flowers.

Seriously, these are so quick and easy that your kids can even help you. Be on the lookout for sets of vases that you can pull out on a moment’s notice. As you plan your next party or get together, think about other unique containers you can use to tie in your theme. Teacups, clay pots, vintage pitchers, mugs, milk glass, cans? The possibilities are endless!

While on vacation with the kids, every once in a while you might want some quite time–a moment to sit by the beach and relax. Those rare times can be hard to find without thinking ahead. Plan now and take some printable postcards for the kids to color and send to everyone at home.

Directions: Print out the postcards on thick cardstock paper. To be considered a postcard by the USPS, the paper needs to be as thick or thicker than an index card. If you don’t have paper this thick, you could always bring some envelopes to mail the postcards off in. Cut out the postcards and hand them off to the kids. The kids can pick their favorite one and draw the surroundings of their vacation. Let them add a little heart felt note on the back and mail away to their friend, cousin, or grandparent! A perfect way to add a little personal touch to a vacation moment.
